Greetings,

I just got a PIC18F4620 in the mail and tried to program it.

I have the MeLabs U2 USB PIC Programmer attached to the MeLabs 840Z 40-Pin ZIF Adapter

I use MicroCode Studio to write the code in PBasic then I use compile and program. This then does a bunch of stuff and opens meProg. I then click Program and it does its stuff and programs the PIC (wonderful). It has been working great with the PIC16Fxxx's I have been using so far.

When I put the PIC18F4620 (Correct way as per diagram) I get an error message from the meProg. The error message is:

"Error: Target device does not match selected device."

Some Things It is Not:

I have PIC18F4620 in the selection box in both MicroCode Studio and meProg
Seems to complile fine in MicroCode Studio
I can read from the PIC in meProg

Other Information:

If I click Get Target Information in meProg I get the following.
- melabs U2 Programmer
- Firmware version is 4.8.
- Target device ID is FFFF
- Target device does not match selected device.

Anyone have any ideas

Cheers Bruce

Is the ribbon cable from programmer to 840Z ZIF plugged into the header on the ZIF
socket where it's marked 28-40 pin Connection?

Of Course..... how could I miss that. To much staring at computer screens, I am going blind. Thanks again for the quick and perfect answer. I do appreciate the advice and hopefully will one day build up enough knowledge to be able add some value to this excellent forum.
