    Question Cd-rom Controller

Has anyone ever tried controlling a PC CD-ROM using PicBasic? How hard would this be? I'm interested in being able to use it as a standalone CD-player. Most CD-ROMs have SPDIF outputs built in.

If the CDRom has Play,Stop etc buttons,
You can use this buttons via PIC.
But software controlling may not be easy, I think.

Yeah, that would be the "duct tape" method of getting it to work. Unfortunately that would limit me to certain cd-roms, not to mention I want to also be able to display track number and time on an LCD display. The ATAPI specification reads like sanskrit. There's gotta be an algorithm out there somewhere. Anybody?

    It's not a bug, it's a random feature.
There's no problem, only learning opportunities.
