can someone tell me how to differentiate between a genuine intruders as opposed to friendly pets

Boy oh Boy, if I could answer that, I could print my own money. Real alarm manufacturers have been working on that (unsuccessfully) for yonks.
Sure there have been partial success, but nothing that is fool-proof and totally functional.
