    Default NMEA 2000 Flow Meter

I want to make a PIC-based fuel flow meter using an NMEA 2000 compliant sensor, such as the Lowrance EP-60 series. My understanding is that NMEA 2000 uses the CAN standard at the hardware level, but I don't know how the protocol works. Does anyone have any experience with this standard, including examples of PIC code that can communicate over this bus?

    Thanks
    Joe
