    Default Controlling a DC solenoid

Hi, what is the best component to turn a solenoid on/off? Ive tried using a driver chip into a relay and using the relay to controll it but relays are noisey. Im hoping for a silent switch. Maybe like a triac but this is DC so they wouldnt work. Im hoping for something cheap too.

    Solenoid details:-
    DC
    56V
Not sure how many amps. It runs from a pretty big transformer. Its actually out of a pinball machine and it looks like they have a lot of triac style components in them

Mosfet seems to be a nice prospect.

    It's not a bug, it's a random feature.
There's no problem, only learning opportunities.

Ive just come up with an alternative solution to this. Since i already have triacs here i thought it would be nice if i can use them. Well i can. I put AC into the triac and a rectifier after the triac and before the solenoid. Works perfectly
