help wanted on PIC choice

what would be the best PIC to use for running an LCD display in 4bit mode, it also needs to be able to measure two temperatures and the supply voltage of 12V before the reg.

i was thinking 16F627 as it would fit straight in to my existing circuit with only minor moddifications.
otherwise i would have to use 16F872 and make a new circuit.
would these be acceptable for the job?
as my programmer is limmited to the PIC's it can programme.

You need to choose a PIC with a Analog-to-Digital converter unless you need to add an external one. So, reject the 16F627. 16F88 is a nice and cheap replacement. I no longer buy new stock of 16F627A or 16F628A.

16F872 will work, if you have it on hand, use it. Unless we could still suggest you tons of other models. Just tell us how many I/O you need.

i just looked on the data sheet for the 16f627, i thought AN1, AN2 etc were A-D inputs, i take it there just comparitors.

i cant use a 16F88 as my programmer wont accept it.

The 16F827 may be my option but means new circuit.

i need 6 output pins for the Lcd
2 pins for temp sensors
1 pin for voltage monitoring
and i would like another possible 3 or more pins for future modifications.

i am currently using a velleman programmer board, reason being it caught my eye and thats how i started to get in to programming Pic.

just looked at that pickit 2 only £25 over here in uk.
might invest as it supports lots of Pic's.

are there any pic's available that would replace the 16F84A pin for pin wit the a/d converter?
