I guess I should file my "Last will and Testament" before it's too late.

In the event of my untimely demise, I wish that eveything I've done in life, remains intact.

I don't want to be the Dead Guy that's not here anymore and should be deleted.

I'd rather just be the guy that did cool stuff when he was here, but isn't around anymore. And my birthday will still be Nov 26. 100 years from now.

    Oh, and Yes!

OK, I've reinstated the DOB but kept the age and year hidden so that Leinske does not age anymore. I've removed his email so that his family are not distressed by any communications from this forum. The rest stays as-is.

As for edits... since justification seems is required...

    1. One thread was pruned. It was goddam embarassing. Everything of a technical nature was kept, but most of the more serious slagging between participants was removed. That in itself removed about 50% of the posts. In six months time, everyone concerned would be wishing they hadn't posted what they did... as far as this forum is concerned it didn't happen and we can all move forward as born-again friends.

    2. A second thread was ammended to ensure original authors rights were recognised as the way it originally appeared made it look like it was all the exclusive work of one participant only. After pruning one thread, last thing I wanted is to waste time having the same thing happen a second time around.

    3. A number of posts along with their originators were permanently deleted for posting spam.

Which of the above do you particularly object to?

Default One of the good guys

This forum, is beginning to feel like a second family. Sorry to hear about Leinske. If he liked to help, as Alain has said, he was one of the good guys.

As for how the forum should be run, Mel you have my full support. Your motives are always above reproach. Your methods seem to me, to be rock solid logic. No one can please everyone “across the board”. The more you do, and/or the more power you wield, the more people will disagree.

I feel sorry for the administrators of any moderated forum. It is a narrow line to walk.

Important to remember; it is your duty to make the difficult decisions. But, it is also your duty to, not have to agonize over your decisions. If you let us cause you to “second guess” too many “calls”, then you will get dragged down, and not want to continue. Keep up the fight. Your contribution to the forum, both in information and administration is extraordinary. We are extremely fortunate for all the angels on this forum.

    Last will:
You always have my permission to do “what you see fit”.
If possible just leave the posts and delete any birth year and email service. Exactly, as you nicely did, for Leinske. Good call.

I agree with the three edit examples you have given. Now, I am off to look up the slang definition of “slagging” and translation of “Silicium”

    My opinion only.
    Thanks,
    -Adam-

It's not so much what I object too, as it is what Crownhill wants for their forum.

As you know, I've already lost my admin status once for deleting posts. And been talked to on 2 other occasions for the same thing. It turns out that the actions were justified, hence I'm still Admin. But it seems very clear what Crownhill wants for their forum.

Freedom of Speech, and Poster Responsibility.

This was a quote from Lester to me, that seems to sum it up pretty good.
Like all forum members, your contributions to the forum are welcome. The moderation tasks that you perform are OK, i'm not so certain that i like removal of posts that people wish they'd not made. Once somthings in the public domain, it should stay there regardless. They should think before posting. But i'll run with your descisions, they dont seem to be unjustified.
I guess I just thought it applied to both of us.

    Usually what goes, goes...

But sometimes things go a bit too far... when you read a thread and cringe as to some of the comments and character assassination that's being thrown about, then it's time to make a judgement call. I didn't get involved. I didn't take sides. I took the decision that the forum would be a better place if posts on a particular thread made in the heat of the moment that later make you look like a complete prat in the cold light of morn would better serve relations between forum members if they weren't there. How many times have you woken up in the morning looked around at whose sharing your bed and thought "OMG whatever possessed me to do that last night?"!!

Dammit, I gave up a pretty good job offer of moderating the Middle-East in order to prune that thread... at least the other job gave you a bullet-proof limmo and Air Miles...
