Here is a program I wrote several years ago that shows ASCII, hex and dec for everything transmitted and received and shows non printable characters as their common listings ie < CR >< LF >< STX >...
I was actually considering some updates for it this last week like the ability to send a counter and easily send time/date, increase ports from 8 to 256..., but I think I lost the original form source files. I'll have to look in a few other places or I might have to start from scratch. If I find it or redo it, I'll post the vb files for anyone else to modify for their needs

I finally found the original files and added some updates. Here is the VB net source files for anyone who wants to modify it for their own uses. I've also included the source files to make the dbcomm.dll file that I did not make myself, but came across several years ago in case anyone wants to see what other com port functions are available.
