I had a few year ago also a problem with my picstart plus and I got a brand new programmer free from microchip.

I have one and it works great,have you got any other chips you could try because maybe your chip is no good

Yeah, its fried...
I tried my Pickit 2 with another pic (the 16f690) and the same problem occured. When I return it, should I get another Pickit 2 or a different programmer? Thanks for the responses!

they have a new pickit2/debugger that looks interesting.I used a 16pro40 until I got my pickit2 but I really would like an ICD2 lot more money though
