Default USB to Serial Adapter with 9.6v

    Hi.

I'm about to build a serial programmer, and I'm using a USB to serial adapter with a Prolific chipset.

Using a multimeter I saw that the DB9 connector shows a 9.6v. With this voltage the pic serial programmers will work ?

    Thanks

You've obviously not read the programming specifications for PIC chips...

In Low Voltage Programming mode, yes maybe, if there's enough current to drive your PIC, but in normal mode - No.

Hi, the ezpic programmer uses the power of the serial port, that's why I asked this.

Most sites says about most notebooks use a low power serial chip and programmers don't work with these notebooks, but there's no information about the voltages.

    Thanks

If your programmer can generate the 13v required for Vpp during programming from a 9.6v source then you're in business... if it can't then you're out of luck...

The only website you should be referring to is the Microchip website for the Programming Specifications for the PICs you are using.
