    Default to many redirects

lester i have some forum issues

recently i started getting "to many redirects " error messages and "try clearing your cookies and browser history" suggestions
then "this site is unavailable" from this forum only.

    using chrome on all devices

its now unusable on my phone and android pad , everything else is fine , laptop is now complaining too\

deleting browser history and cookies works exactly once then fails as per usual next time round

other browsers seem ok with it

But did not experienced any access problems.

Have also a laptop that is using only Chrome. Will test there and report back.

On my laptop with Chrome there is no issue.

Maybe Richard you had an update of antivirus or a plug-in of Chrome?

I ran into this the other day. My provider's DNS was not working. I switched to Google's DNS so I could keep working and got the "too many redirects" message on this site and one other forum only. When the issue was fixed and I switched back to the provider DNS, the issue went away. YMMV

    Richard,

In your browser that is giving the Too many redirects issue.

    What happens if you

    1) clear the browser cache
    2) Clear cookies
    3) open a private window

    navigate to www.picbasic.co.uk/forum/

Do you still get the error message

Investigation of the routing for a url request, shows that if you request

    picbasic.co.uk

you get a maximum of two redirects, resulting in a hit on www.picbasic.co.uk/forum/ , so its not a circular loop of death and should not throw a too many redirects error

    Clear Chrome Data

This will delete your browsing history, cookies, and cached images and files.

This will fix the “too many redirects” error in most cases.

    To clear your Chrome data:

    On your computer, open Chrome.
At the top right, click More > More tools > Clear browsing data.
At the top, choose a time range.
To delete everything, select All time.
Next to “Cookies and other site data” and “Cached images and files,” check the boxes.
    Click Clear data.

    Disable Browser Extensions
If clearing your Chrome data doesn’t fix the “too many redirects” error, you might have a browser extension causing the problem.

    To disable extensions on Chrome:

    On your computer, open Chrome
At the top right, click More > More tools > Extensions
On the extension, you want to remove, click Remove
If you’re not sure whether an extension is causing the problem, you can disable all your extensions.

After doing so, enable them one by one to see which one is causing the problem.

Adjust Time And Date On Your PC
If you’re still seeing the “too many redirects” error, you might need to adjust your computer’s time and date.

This can be caused by an incorrect time zone setting or a problem with your internet connection.

To adjust your Windows computer’s time and date:

    Open Control Panel
    Click Clock, Language, and Region
Under the Internet Time tab, click Change settings
Uncheck the box next to Synchronize with an Internet time server
    Click Update now
Try loading the website again after you adjust your computer’s time and date.

    Clear DNS Cache
If you’re still seeing the “too many redirects” error, you can try clearing your DNS cache. This will delete any incorrect DNS settings and might fix the problem.

To clean your Windows PC DNS cache:

    Open Command Prompt
Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter
    Restart Your Computer
It is essential to ensure you’ve included the space between “ipconfig” and “/”; otherwise, the command won’t work.

Richard, On Checking, Chrome allows 5 redirects, we are no where near close to that. So I'm guessing that you have a rouge file in your browser system.

There is nothing I can do at my end to "fix" the issue on your browser.

I have added no features or changes that would cause this error.

I just cleared history and cookies again . So far so good I can quit and reload Chrome and all is good.
Previously it would work once then fail at next chrome session.
Thanks for looking at the issue

I get exactly the same thing. I've just accepted that it might take 20-30 attempts to open the forum page. It's been happening for a long time and only happens with this site. I'm also using Chrome.

Doesn't work on my main machine (with Edge). I keep postponing the update(s) on the laptop I'm writing this on (which is currently running Edge version 108.0.1462.46) as I suspect I won't be able to reach the forum if I allow it to update. I've only experienced the issue with this particular site/forum.

Indeed, updating Edge does not access the forum anymore...

The only browser that works is Opera. Which is not that bad. Has also that adv switch that kills every adv on YouTube! I like it alot!

I have removed a redirect from the base URL to the forum

If you visit http://www.picbasic.co.uk you will need to manually click the link to go to
    http://www.picbasic.co.uk/forum

Its VERY difficult for me to test the effects of changes I make to resolve the TOO MANY REDIRECTS ISSUE

    I cannot easily reproduce it.

I would welcome feedback on the performance of the site today.

Direct email is acceptable, if the site is unaccessible to you

    thank you
