You don't say if it's for VGA, HDMI, PAL, NTSC etc and/or if it needs to overlay the OSD data onto an existing video signal or "just" put the data on a blank screen so I can't really "filter" my search but the LC74736PT is a 16 color OSD chip for QVGA and WVGA.

Hi Henrik!
Your right I should have been more specific. I wish to overlay PIC sensor readings onto an incoming NTSC (Never Twice the Same Color, LOl) 4:3 video camera. It is for my submarine and the video is from the periscope camera. I have found a post of someone who has done this and they do not answer any e-mails.

Hi All!
My wish is to overlay readings from built in sensors in my submarine such as port motor speed, port motor temperature , starboard motor speed, starboard motor temperature, water temperature, compass heading, torpedo status (green for torpedo read, red for torpedo already fired), missile status, depth, sound selected, bow plane angle, stern plane angle, rudder angle, pitch angle, roll angle, battery voltage and current, and a warning if water were to get into the water proof housing with all the electronics. It would be great to color code all the readings such as red for port reading, green for starboard and other colors for the other readings. I have a periscope that uses an NTSC color camera.

Well I was looking into this for a project, but didn’t get to use it:

I edited it above because it’s not only a monochrome overlay, but also I don’t know if it will ruin a colour source video.

Have you searched Hackaday for a project like that?

The video at the link http://www.mikroe.com/click/osd/ looks like color video input with that 7456 chip on the module.
