i realize the correct answer is 'it depends..' but thought i would try anyway
i have always been a 16F sorta guy but am thinking i may be missing something not using 18F's
as i had only recently and belatedly discovered the 16F1xxx parts i thought maybe i would ask what you all use for your 'go to' 18F part ?
generally 20-28 pins will do what i do
i usually need 1 or 2 analogs and a small bit of EE
i don't generally need a TON of code space
i.e. something fairly vanilla, something cool new and cheap BUT something also well supported and known to work well w/ PBP3
there are so many offerings it is bewildering to pick one (pun intended)
i suppose USB is inevitably in my future but i don't have the means to create the host side app and am not eager to tackle that too, if i were to engage USB it would likely be low speed and simple, something like passing a few setup parameters and strings from the host app to the PIC
any favorite parts or tips would appreciated, i think initially a non-USB chip is best choice unless there is no trade off in including it
