Make a stainless steel plate that has the square hole for the connector. Fix this plate to the plastic box. A few seconds with a Dremel hand tool and the material that once was a wall (side of the box) is now on the floor.

How soft is the pastic? If it's soft plastic and you have a drill press, then a mortising attachment may work (even though it says "for wood use only").
