Hello all.
I rashly bought one of these before checking if I can program it. I have picbasic pro 2.45 and a Vellemen k8048 programmer. Have I been rash? I didn't even check if winpic can program the device.

Looks promising for WinPIC.There is another brand-new device called PIC18Fxxxx now. Can you add support for it ?
Most likely, yes. Martin van der Werff (-thank you Martin ! -) has added support for most (if not all) PIC18F devices. You may need to add an entry in the DEVICES.INI file if your chip is not in it.

I'm not familiar with that programmer, but it seems as if it is very dependant on model. There's a list there, no mention of how to add new devices.

EDIT: someone added the PIC18F4550 to the Velleman programmer, someone should be able to add the 18F24K22. When might be an issue.
EDIT SOME MORE: PBP 2.45 will be your greatest issue:

Thanks. I am really struggling with what I thought was going to be a simple thing...3 harware pwm to control and rgb led. I ahve spent a day going through the microchip list looking for a pic that has:
1: 3 hardware pwm
2: is compatible with picbasic 2.45
3: Is comaptible with my vellemen programmer.
4: is available to buy from RS or the like.
Sheesh!
Perhaps I should go down the icsp route.
I can try the pb3 trial for 15 days but that only gets me over 2:
Ok. I have found my answer:

Compatible with many many pics and the Velleman k8048.
A bit happier now.
The PIC18f2331 and PIC18f2431 have at least 3 pwm modules. It's also
an older chip and may work with PBP2.45? Otherwise you need to upgrade your compiler
and programer software.

I can't see any reference to any version of the 18F2331/2431/4331/4431 in the update list, so it's hard to say exactly when support began:

You will be happy you did. Lots of improvements since 2.47! But the 4431 shows it was in version 2.45.
