I was just reading some of the opinions and chatter about this subject and wondered to myself if this might be a better idea...

instead of asking people if they like it (because everyone will have a diffrent reply), why don't the admins just let it run and then look at the stats in a couple of months time to see if its being used enough to justify its existence...

if it is being used a lot keep it, if its not used much kill it!.

Is that a too simplistic a view, I dunno ?.

Bruce, probably not. I've turned it off.

However it was a non persistent message that should show only once per visit and you could dismiss it. Once dismissed it should not show up again....so long as you keep your cookies.

Anyway, its gone now....unlike the chat box, which has gained new life since i suggested removing it!!!

Thanks Lester. I found it pretty annoying to have to scroll-down below that huge awful yellow section every time I checked in to look at new posts....

FINALLY I feel like I can contribute

I believe it should stay, no one is forced to use it so what does it hurt.

And it gives a place for those who feel compelled to yap a place off the formal track for yapping.

Communication is important so having a formal and informal place is most excellent.

I feel the ChatBox is a good idea and is worth keeping around. You can have simple questions answered easily without having to start a new thread. The only problem I have found is response time of other people. If other people are willing to participate, the ChatBox could be a very useful tool.

I don't like the positioning of the "search Messages" box... I get confused when doing a site search!

It could actually be now converted to a search box.
Coming to the forum is mostly for a search, isn't it?
People have been using the chat box very rarely lately. Why not change it to a search box?
