Default In-circuit device programmer for 16F1827 parts

Was dismayed to find that my PicKit2 doesn't support the 16F1827. My PicKit3 may, but only through MPLAB (nuisance), and Mecanique apparently doesn't offer a bootloader.

Now I'm thinking I may just build up a short patch cable from my MELabs U2 device programmer, crossing the wires appropriately to adapt the 10-pin header on the programmer, to the 6-pin PGC/PGD header for the device.

Can anyone advise of any downside to doing this for easy in-circuit device programming?

Your Pickit2 just needs to be updated, and or a new device file. Here is the link: http://www.microchip.com/stellent/id...cName=en023805

    That's great news. Thanks Scalerobotics!

I had the latest version of the app, but my device file was old.
