There aren't that many pages just for the USART section and its quite informative. At the end of each section it verifies exactly what you need to do. The main thing is getting the correct bits set in the associated registers at the start of the program in order to tell the USART exactly how you want it to behave. Dealing with the USART after that is easy. If you have any difficulty let me know.
