Hi,
Has anybody used the FT232R USB to serial converter chip? I want to use it to interface a USB keyboard to my PIC via it's uart.
Any info appreciated, otherwise I guess it's "give it a try" time.![]()

Hello. FT232 converts RS232 devices to USB devices, you need USB to RS232 for your keyboard (USB host).
You can use usb keyboard to ps/2 adapter.
Or simple use ps/2 keyboard.
FT232 to convert usb port to serial port. you can't use as usb host!
Oh, wow, it's going to be a learning experience!
I've pretty much decided to load the VNC1L on my board and essentially build a VDIP1 on my host board. As I mentioned this is for a keyboard input and I'm concerned about lack of handshaking. Not knowing exactly how the VNC1L acts, I'm rather expecting it to just dump the keyboard characters out it's TXD line when I'm not looking for them.
I see the brick wall coming, and am going to have to implement some kind of handshaking to control character flow. Any ideas? Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
I am working on the same thing.
I have attached a connection diagram that I will use. If I have any problem I will let you know.... or vice-versa.
Regards,
Tom
