Yes it si possible, but you will end up with an unreliable stuff that will cost you 10 times a comercial one.

What can I search for to get the correct solenoid valve, because if I search on google for solenoid valve I get a lot of industrial stuff with very expensive prices.

For residential garden use, search for "Irrigation Valve".
Rainbird is a big brand.

Another Option
If you want a smaller non regulated, non adjustable alternative to " Garden Valves ", automatic Dishwashers and Clothes washing machines use some tidy little 120v solenoid valves. Get them from a salvaged machine or from the Appliance Parts Store. Here is a link to a vendor offering a typical unit, I posted this link so you can see what it looks like:

Solenoid valve for watering the garden
Hi,
We supply arange of solenoid valves from stock, please have a look at www.solenoidvalvesuk.com and use the drop down boxes on the right hand side to get what you want, or enter in the "Search by part number" PU225 and PU220. this will bring up 3 data sheets and prices.
Some things to think about. If mains water pressure you can use the PU225 series, perhaps the 1/2" BSP one. this will give you good flow. Regarding voltage, if possible use a low voltage DC as it's water. 12vDC is no problem for this valve. If you use 240vAC you should ensure a GOOD earth or, preferably, an RCB circuit breaker for protection. You can fit a timer too.
