Ups
Would it be possible to make a UPS using a PIC?
I have some deep cycle lead acid batteries, a couple AC invertors and a good regulated 12V DC power supply.
Is there a way to use a PIC to interface between the AC Power, Batteries and AC Invertors to monitor the charging, show how much power remains in the batteries as well as what power source is currently being used (AC or batteries)?
If so, what would be the best place to get some info on how to start such a project?
Any help would be greatly apreciated.
Thanks

Thanks for the info.
That is basically what I have now so the next step is the make the interface between them. I want to be able to monitor the UPS so that I can shut down the computer equipment before the batteries run out of power.
Do you think it is possible to do this with a PIC?

Possibly you will want to research APC's serial protocol unless you are making your own application to shut down the PC. Beyond that look into A/D conversion, by searching the list.

This paper shows some of the design considerations with a PIC18F452 and Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBTs).
