WIFI home automation help

Hi All
i have a project that will include wifi/Ethernet connecting my house items (boiler/ hot water heater / porch light ) to an app/ website that receives the status of each item

the information i have now is going to a pic16f887 and some leds/lcd

my questions are

1. how difficult is it to move to WiFi
2. any help would be appreciated

anyone knows any leads that i can go to
