Code to sniff SPI bus with a PIC ?

Before I embark on using the HopeRF RFM12 SPI transceiver on a new project I need to work out what the original commercial TX unit (that I'm going to be receiving from) sends in the way of initialization commands to it's own HopeRF module. That way I can know the RF parameters for my project.

For that I need a SPI bus sniffer of some description, that will send the SPI bus data to say a serial port to be displayed on a PC terminal window. The sniffer will be temporarily attached to the commercial TX module.

Rather than have to make a sub-project before I embark on the main project, is there anybody here that has made a SPI sniffer in PBP that's will to share the code ?
