seeking polling suggestions

Hey Pros's,


working on a project where i'll have approx 10 pic16f88's with xbee's sending sensor data to an xbee connected to a pc.

i'm thinking of letting the pic's store the data for a time period then transmitting it to the pc. they won't be collecting/sending data more than within a a 9-hour time frame 6 days a week. these pics won't be handling large amounts of data so a store & forward approach i think will work.

thinking out loud here, i don't think i want to have the pc base polling constantly nor having the pic's send data every time input is occurring.

would the pro's agree in this particular setup?

how can i prevent/minimize collisions in this example? what better/other suggestions do you pro's have to offer?
