Another thing is it took me a while to get the adc to work, and then sometimes it wouldn't. It would sometimes hang waiting for the go/done bit to change, but it never did change. Check out

Update: Oct 27th ..... Samples yes, but you can't buy any (other than DIPs) until Jan 26th....

Microchip (almost) has the 12F1822 ready for samples. This is the smallest chip with a UART, at only 8 pins. It also has an internal 32 mhz oscillator. For me, the delivery date is supposed to be Oct 10th. A little slower than their usual sample dates. Here are it's quick specs:
