Ok, one thing I had not noticed, is that this thing has a crude temperature sensor on it! See: http://ww1.microchip.com/downloads/e...tes/01333A.pdf attached for more info.

Update: Oct 27th ..... Samples yes, but you can't buy any (other than DIPs) until Jan 26th....
Update Oct 7th: Samples arrived at my door.
Update Oct 5th: My sample order just shipped, so it looks like they are on schedule!
Microchip (almost) has the 12F1822 ready for samples. This is the smallest chip with a UART, at only 8 pins. It also has an internal 32 mhz oscillator. For me, the delivery date is supposed to be Oct 10th. A little slower than their usual sample dates. Here are it's quick specs:
Enhanced Mid-range Core with 49 Instruction, 16 Stack Levels
Flash Program Memory with self read/write capability
Internal 32MHz oscillator
Integrated Capacitive mTouch Sensing Module
Data Signal Modulator Module
MI2C, SPI, EUSART w/auto baud
ECCP (Enhanced/Capture Compare PWM) Module
Comparator with selectable Voltage Reference
4 Channel 10b ADC with Voltage Reference
25mA Source/Sink current I/O
Two 8-bit Timers (TMR0/TMR2)
One 16-bit Timer (TMR1)
Extended Watchdog Timer (EWDT)
Enhanced Power-On/Off-Reset
Brown-Out Reset (BOR)
In Circuit Serial Programming (ICSP)
On Board In-Circuit Debug
Wide Operating Voltage (1.8V – 5.5V)
Low Power PIC12LF182x variants (1.8V – 3.6V)
Standby Current (PIC12LF182X): 20 nA @ 1.8V, typical
Active Current(PIC12LF1822): 50 uA/MHz @ 1.8V, typical

And if you need more programming space ... it looks like the PIC12F1840 (8 pins) is coming. Looks to be about the same, but it doubles the programming space, and ram.

Re: CAN header and EXT asm question
I have been working on a CAN interface file where you pass a few initial set up parameters, speed etc. and it selects and sets the appropriate registers. When you want to send a frame, you load a...
