OK. Please be kind... I can't figure out how to send serout or debug data to my laptop. I am using XP home. Do I use Hyperterminal? It wants telephone numbers when I want to communicate through a USB port with a USB to serial converter.
It is probably obvious but I don't see it.
Anyone willing to help out a poor ignorant person?
All constructive replies accepted gratefully.
Thanks in advance,

Sumobob:
Welcome to this forum. Hyperterminal would try to look for a configured modem to talk with. That is why it is asking for a number to dial etc. What you need to do is to find out via the SYSTEM PROPERTIES window as to which COM device your USB converter emulates.
Now, open a new connection called "XXX" or whatever you want and configure it. Choose the option "CONNECT TO' using COMxx which is the COM device you found your USB-COM to be emulating. This option is found in the Connection Properties button on Hyperterm. Thats all there is to it. I hope I haven't forgotten anything here.

Thank you very much!
I can program the PICs that I use but never had to use a debug to figure out why my code was not functioning as expected.
This will help me very much.
Cheers,
