View Full Version : Be Gone Acursed Spammers

Fellow Forum Members,
Please do not repost Spam content you receive, as when other members read your post it promotes the spammer's agenda, I would ask you also not to open any thread posted to by a spammer until the administrators have deleted the spammer's entry. Well how do I know it's a spammer? If you open 1 post and the spammers used I D is the last poster, and several other posts have him as a last poster, just figure, those posts have been spammed too. Please do not post over them as it then becomes difficult for the Admins. to know what threads have been contaminated with ruthless, dastardly, low life spam. AND NEVER POST YOUR PERSONAL EMAIL ADDRESS ONLINE, Unless you like getting spammed.

... have been contaminated with ruthless, dastardly, low life spam.

I usually have a few different words about SPAM. But I guess those will do. :)

I'd also like to say that the "Report Post" button, is EXTREMELY welcome for reporting abusive posts. (Really, please).

But SPAM is removed as we see it, so please don't "Report" it unless it's been there more than 24hrs.

That function also sends an email to Lester.
I'm sure he doesn't need to be bothered with such matters.

Thank You!

OK everyone, I think we're in for a "bumpy" ride.

The "LOW LIFE's" have released their latest version of the vBulletin forum spammer.

They will start out as "Bump it up" posts.
But they will accelerate to full on "NASTY SPAM".

Please be carefull what you Click On.

These programs have been developed to circumvent the latest forum registration pages. They can read those pictures, that you have to type the corresponding letters. You know, the ones that take a normal person 4 or 5 times to get right.

It will take an update to vBulletin before it goes away.

P.S. ... Don't reply to them. (Please). It only makes them harder to find and delete.

Regards,

Hi Darrel,

Just do your best with the tools you have to work with.
You guys have done a great job so far.
We can put up with any infiltration from the dastardly Acursed Spammers, till the tools catch up with the invaders.

I've deleted 11 posts and over 2 dozen new registrations - that's just in the last six hours today...

Good...
Curious...Do you also put a sort of I. P. lockout (not 100% sure what that's called exactly) when you get a spammer? Or do they all spoof anyways so that chances of actually nailing down the source is nill...

Melanie

At the moment I'm just Deleting posts and the User. I don't think any of us Admins have the time to do any more than that... we all got jobs, lives etc... Either new Registrations have to be suspended for a while, or, approved by Admin before they would be able to post. Personally, I'd not approve anyone with a hotmail (or gmail - big culprit) account, but that's not a decision for me...

Agree'd...
I don't think I've ever seen those posts around here for more than 1/2 hour...at the most...anyways. Tells me that you're on the ball regardless of what time it is.

You guys are busy today (1Oct08) eh? Nothing but spammers registering all day...

No one is going to read your spam except the Admins who will kill it!

Yes, and fortunately, I have Norton.
He didn't like a couple of those last one's.

Looks like Lester has installed the latest vBulletin upgrade.
Hopefully that will take care of the recent menagerie.

Melanie's been on the "Front Line" for the last couple weeks.
Knocken them down like targets at a practice range.
I've just been mopping up the one's that get through.

Many thanks to Melanie and Lester's efforts.
Sure made my job easy. :)

If those updates cost money, I'm very suspicious about who is behind it. Nobody in this world does anything without reason. I'm having trouble swallowing the notion of "Cyberpunks" (bunch of immature twits looking for attention) -- being responsible.

Think about it, just how informed would these people need to be in order to do what they're doing? They're professional programmers with, at very least, inside information relating to the system.

Writing character recognition software for all those pictures would be a tedious, time-consuming exercise.

*Skills required to do that?

- Application programming
- Subclassing
- DIB knowledge
- Mathematics expert

*Who could have done this?

- Cyberpunk
- vBulletin

*Why would they do this?

- For profit
- Attention
- Immaturity
- Insanity

That's the best analysis / argument I can come up with at the moment.

Hope it helps you solve the problem.

Really?
They must have been because I could not do it with my skill level.

Don't worry Jeremy, you're not a suspect in this one.

But ummm, anyone who is a %$^& and has a proven aptitude in the aforementioned criteria is. So, I guess this probably narrows it right down (at least I like to think it does)

If that statement is to be perceived as meaning: "I'm important", then I guess I would be, given that there's 5 million dollars on my head. Incidentally I'm actually related to one of these millionaires, I think my mum knocked him back on a date 40-years ago. But he did manage to get his hands on my Uncle's wife.

DT...You live in CA right? I have no doubt you've been hounded by the media (just judging by your relative location). I've felt that pain. We got the same hounding by the protesters/media at Fairford AB back during O.I.F. Probably the same type of lame clowns that run these forum-spamming rings/contests...

No plans on doing anything like that. Instead, I will just tell it how it is. Doubt they'll air it: they will just incriminate themselves.

Funny how every Electronics Genius is "The Cable Guy" I. E. The movie Independance Day . . .
Media Rats and overZealous DAs, all bad news, honesty just isn't there. Sacrafice anybody for personal gain, and politicians, President Reagan said it well "Politics is the second oldest profession and in many ways it resembles the first"
