Has anybody played with one of these ds1629 chips?
http://pdfserv.maxim-ic.com/en/ds/DS1629.pdf

I want to use this device to monitor PCB temp which seems ideal and as a RTC which will be set from a gps.

I want a use the RTC in order to easily manage time zones so the gps sets the clock then it can read the time zone which I can work out from the lat & long.
I hoping this will save me having to write a whole clock routine which can cope with day, years, leap years etc.

Also as it takes a second or so to read the gps I have an instant time reference.

Can anyone see a downside?
And has anyone played with a ds1629

Rob,

I guess the RTC-part of the DS1629 is comparable to DS1307.

Melanie has written some code for the DS1307
