Can i switch a 25 watt CFL with circuit using a PIC ???

Do you have a data sheet for the opto relay? I can not find one.

I would say yes, the PIC can do this but the 12 volt zener looks like trouble.

Looks like a lot more components than I would use to do the same job . . .

Got it working.
PORTB.1 --> 33 ohm --> anode of optocoupler LED
Cathode of oftocoupler --> battery negative
Simple enough and works great . . .

:eek: 33 Ohms :eek: i wish you meant 330 Ohm, unless your PIC and the OPTO will suffer...

5/33=151.52 mA :eek:

PIC max 25mA
Opto max 60mA

Thanks for the heads up mister_e . . .
But the opto does not respond with anything less than 100 ohm.
Don't know why ?!?
So use a 33 ohm and it worked . . .
I checked the current drain and its around 13 ma, which is in the safe level . . .

Tested the circuit with a 25 watt bulb.
Is it safe to test it with a 25 watt CFL ?
The CFL's have a electronic ballast circuit so i am not sure if its safe.
