SHIFTIN clock pin???

Hi all,

I'm working with a digital encoder and decoder that requires me to use the SHIFTIN function to read the synchronous serial output of the decoder's onboard counter. I have two questions. 1. The SHIFTIN function asks for a clock pin.... do I need an additional oscillator? 2. If so, how should this be connected? Thanks ahead of time!!!

do I need an additional oscillator?
no - the sending device controls the clock for synchronous communication (so the pic clock pin should go directly to the device sending the data)
