Hello all. I have a quick question dealing with the ISD25120. The datasheet says that the address pins are not compatible with a microcontroller bus and must be buffered and latched. I am not familiar on exactly what this means or how to do it. Thanks for any help.

A conventional microprocessor bus has tri-stated logic devices hanging on it... ie, you can take out of circuit (have go high impedance) any logic that is not addressed or required at that time. Your chip is unable to do this... but you don't need to do it if you're connecting it directly to a PIC and there are no other devices sharing the same lines. So you can ignore that and proceed normally.

Hi, Travin,

I have the datasheet in front of me ... it is clearly written " adresses and control lines can be interfaced to a microcontroller ...."

see ISD 2560/75/90/120 datasheet part 2, Microcontroller interface chapter ...

may be your pair of glasses is a bit old, or dusty ???

Thanks for the info Mel. And Ace, just look at the apps info for circuit examples for the isd1000a and isd2500 products page 13, left hand column in the note. Maybe your glasses are old? I saw what you were talking about. Later in the sheet, they say that they do not recommend direct connection to microcontroller pins. So that is where I am comming from.=)

Once again, thanks

I agree with your post, all I am saying is that they contridict themselves throughout their apps sheets and datasheets. My post was meant in jest.

We have been using ISD 10xx and 25xxx for years aboard various model boats for sound realism.

They're driven by 16C84, F84 and F628's ...

Without any problems ... note that the elder is a 1997 brew aboard a fishing trawler ...

i would be glad to hear that
"ouais les putains de poissons, venez ici, on va vous arracher la tronche sale connards!"

Just kidding Alain... and you know that :D

Hi, Steve

Here, Genally, children under 5 or 6 years old love saying those words ... exceptionnally, 10 , sometimes 13 for girls ...

...

due to the accident shock I suppose ???
