pic project help

Hi, i am involved in a project using a pic 16f84 microcontroller. i have designed a circuit for a speedometer using a hall effect sensor as an input and two 7 segment LEDs as the speed display. My problem is that i am a complete novice where microcontrollers are concerned and desperately need help writing some code.
i would be very grateful for any help or advice
