View Full Version : PIC voltage levels

Hi,

This is only slightly related to Picbasic...

I have a PIC running of 3.3v in a circuit. I realise that the MCLR pin is connected, through a pull up resistor, to a 5v line. Both voltage lines share a common earth.

Is this likely to cause problems? Are there any major disadvantages to just disabling the MCLR pin completely and leaving it floating?

Thanks,

Ben

Hmmm...

Page 131 of the data sheet:

Seems to say that the disaprity is ok. The voltage on the MCLR pin can range from Vss-0.3 to Vss+14. So pulling it to 5v should not be a problem, even if the rest of the PIC is running of 3v3
