I'm working on a circuit that will have 6-8 white LEDs connected to one pin. Since this is drawing more than the max. sink of 20 mA, does anyone have some suggestions on how to boost the current? I've used NPN transistors in the past, but I'm not sure if I need a resistor between the base and the PIC pin, what tranny to use, etc. Would a hex driver be better?

Drivers like UNL2003 are not better than any BJT transistor like 2N4401, but easier to use and take, in man case less pcb space and component count. you'll never need any external resistor between your PIC and those driver. Plug-N-Play.
