Failed programmer?

I am using 12F675, I checked before programming that the clock was running and the chip drew only the normal microamps. After programming, the chip drags down my 3 amp power supply and gets very hot. Erasing the program does not help. How does one program a 12F675 to be a short circuit? My programmer is melabs U2. Has it failed again (this is my second one)? My test circuit is just power and ground and pin 4 (reset) grounded.

When you programmed your PIC, did it pass code verification? Sounds like your PIC is fried, perhaps a defective PIC. I would try to program another one before blaiming the programmer.

any short on your PCB ??? or did you ever invert the supply polarities ???

even placing the chip in the wrong way on its socket doesn't draw so much current ...

I programmed two before checking that the 3rd one was good before programming.
