Directional Voice Microphone

This is really off topic..

I am working with an anthropologist that is doing voice recordings. We were looking at a Heil PR22 but it is not available from the supplier they want to use.

So now I am looking at an alternate.
Does anyone know if a Shure SM58 is comarable to the Heil?

Or any other dynamic, cardioid mic in the same price range that is any good?

Ah ... That's my domain ;)
There's no advantages to use real directional mic for voice recording. the Heil one is not even a pure directionnal mic, but has an interesting polar pattern.

SM58 or BETA 58 are close replacement Both are pretty decent, and considered as live & PA classics. BETA 58 sounds tad better though.

I'm a huge fan of Sennheiser Evolution 800 serie for my studio voice recording & PA use. When using them on a PA, they tend to have a better feedback rejection.

They have better frequency range, better sensitivity, sounds better than Shure, less dull, more hot, round & crispy (go figure what it mean :D) Check out Sennheiser e835 or e845.

For simple voice recording, e835 would be perfect. Shure Beta 58 in second place. Those should be in the same price range.
