Arduino

Now that I've got everyone's attention..
Is anyone aware of similar PIC systems around the planet anywhere. I'm getting too old to go learning a new language and as I have all the support stuff for PICs already I thought I might investigate anything PIC based, similar to Arduino. I suppose I cound run up something similar just for my own use, but why re-invent the wheel. I did have a look at Picaxe before I got onto PICs themselves but they were a bit less versatile as far as the in/outs were concerned.
I don't necessarily mean something that will take off the shelf Arduino shields, just a similar arrangement.

Crownhill, who runs this forum, has developed the AMICUS18 (http://www.myamicus.co.uk/) which has the same form factor as the Arduino. The AMICUS compiler is a completely free version of the Proton compiler (which is not what this forum is about) locked to only 18F25K20 and 18F25K22.

The board obviously works perfectly fine with PBP, we even have a dedicated forum section (http://www.picbasic.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=33) here for AMICUS18 and PBP.

Now, the AMICUS18 has the same form factor as the Arduino, meaning that Arduino shields fits - physically - but you need to look at any specific shield you might want to use to see if it'll work electrically as well. (See my thread on the Ethernet shield for example.)

There's also the AMIPIC18 (http://www.picshop.nl/) which is a clone of the AMICUS18 with some slight changes and the XINO Basic (http://www.ciseco.co.uk/content/?p=1563) which is pretty much just an Arduino shaped PCB with an IC-socket on it.

Both it and the Xino Basic, which Henrik referenced, are more electrically compatible with Arduino shields than the Amicus18.

There's also the Chipino: http://chipino.cc/ for 28 pin PICs. They have it in kit form as well.
