View Full Version : MicroCode Studio v4.0.0.0 - too many characters in path & filename error message

Hi,
I just installed the latest version of MicroCode Studio (free) v4.0.0.0.
Unfortunately, I get an error message when I want to compile:
The Microchip assembler (MPASM) only allows up to 62 characters to be used for path and filename. Current length is 86 characters.
I didn't change anything to my former paths or filenames and it was working well with MCS v3.0.0.5.
MCS sais I need to shorten my path & filenames (?!).
Does somebody else experience this?

I have gotten that a couple of times when my files are deep in some folder structure. Just do as it says and move it up a couple of levels or shorten the filename and it'll work.
If you REALLY haven't changed ANYTHING it's strange though, perhaps if you have your files in the MCS folder they have added some characters to their folder names but then you have probably moved your original files to THAT folder.
Anyway, simply shorten it down and you'll be fine.
/Henrik.

Thanks Henrik,
As I said, I didn't change ANYTHING to my path & filenames passing from MCS v3.0.0.5 to v4.0.0.0, meaning, it was working well "as is" in the previous version.
Although there is a workaround (btw not tested yet), I was more rising a question about if somebody else experienced this problem too.
Am I the only one out there getting this warning message? :(

Where do I find MCS V4.0.0.0?
Edit:
I just find it at Melabs, but why does mecanique still have the older version 3.0.0.5 on there website?

Hello there,
Does someone experience the same problem as me?

Not the same problem, but I have another problem.
If I have two or more files opened that have different devices selected, and click the other opened file then the device changes to the same device that the fist file uses.
In MC 3.0.0.5 I can have different files opened that have different devices selected, in 4.0.0.0 I have to manually change the device each time I switch between the files.
So I got back to MC 3.0.0.5

I had the same problem and I moved my projects to a folder in the root directory. I named my folder c:\Projects. That fixed the problems.

I use version 3.0.0.5, so I haven't encounter that problem with other versions. However, you should open a new thread so your problem gets more attention from other people and you don't hijack this thread.
