USART for dummies?

Hello to All,
I been doing some searching on here before sending out a distress call for USART but have only returned bits and pieces. Can anyone point out a post or an example on the forum that would go into a little depth on the subject? I am experimenting with serial comms using a 16F628A and am using the PicBasic Pro compiler. Thanks
