Hi there:
I am learning how to use a parallel LCD (one line 16 characters). This is a HD44780 base LCD and looks very familiar to me according to the book I am following the book “PicBasic projects” pages 114-120. I did the set up two days ago and still today after check every connection and examine this chapter many times I don’t get more than the first 8 characters working. I got these two out of old printers and both displays were working so they are good. I write “1234567890” and only the first 8 numbers are displayed. Please, advice what to do next. Thanks.

Some of the 1x16 LCDs have the first 8 as line one and the second 8 as line twu.

Think 2x8 LCD. The second line is beside rather than below.
