ok, i had my pic sat on my bench turned on and i went to make a brew and have a fag...
I came back to find my LCD display off...
i grabbed my power module to hold it down while i pulled the power jumper to turn of the power and realised my 5 volt regulator was increadably hot... so i pulled the jumper...

Somehow while i was making a brew, the power wire from one side of the PIC to the other had come loose and was shorting...

So, i put the wire back in and reconnected the power module... The LCD display initialised but did not display my "initialising" and "initialised" messages...
I double checked everything, stuck it back in the programmer and re-programmed it, verifies ok... Still nothing...
I stuck my multimeter around known output pins thinking perhaps my LCD had died... the data lines to the LCD were solid high...
I tested the xtal lines thinking i had an xtal problem again... OSC1 read zero volts and OSC2 read 5 volts...

I tested in my little Knight rider board and it reads the same...

Have i killed it?

Have i killed it?
If it makes you feel any better... It was a quick death.

i'm just wondering (hoping, praying... last ditch...)

I was thinking perhaps it might just be the XTAL circuit on the chip...

Whats the formula to calculate frequency for RC osc?
I'm trying to find it... can't see it though...
