Has anyone been clever enough to write code in BASIC for a PIC to monitor automotive ECU function?

there are guys who have done it via a pc port,www.pgmfi.org. You will find almost everything you need when it comes to automotive electronics.

I'm using the elm line of chips. I leave the protocol conversion to them and I handle the gui side of things with a pic. For a few dollars US you can't beat it.
