Testing LCD's

Hi.
This is my first post.
I am quite new to pics ( and LCD's )
I would like to be able to find out if an LCD module (HD 44780 ) that I have just bought, is working.
I have a Velleman K8048 programmer with mpasmwin and picprog2 software.
I have searched the internet, looking for an easy project to build on a proto board, using a 16f84 or 628, without much luck so far.
Can anyone help me out?

The example in the Pic Basic manual is about as easy as it gets.
Just make sure the ADC and comparators are shut down if you pic has them..

Amazing how that happens isn't it? I don't know about the rest of the world, but if I bought a $250 program, I don't think I'd be misplacing the manual anytime soon. Am I alone here?

Gentlemen!

The PicBasic Manual does not list a command LCDOut. Consequently no direct LCD drawing. Now the PicBasicPro manual does have the necessary command and drawings on how to connect it.
