Can I still use the version I have ???
In all ways YES, you can ( supposing files are not corrupted ...) ... LOL !!!
May I still use the version I have ???
You will find the answer in the copyright notice of the manual ...
" Use of the PicBasic Pro compiler without a license is a violation of law " ...
To be precise :
"

Taken from the Melabs site ...
TO ME that clearly means even a "second hand" original PbP CD is not Legal ( YOUR name must be on the Invoice ) ...
The good question is : Who sold ( shop or ?) you this PbP disk, can you prove you purchase ... and is it an original one from Melabs ...
If you can show you bought it honestly ... I bet you will be able to BUY a regular upgrade from an authorized dealer ...

IF there is the word "Problem" in your question ...

Ohm it's not just a good idea... it's the LAW !
I am sticking my neck out here.
From the microengineering Labs.Inc. COPYRIGHT NOTICE
“Use of the PICBASIC PRO Compiler without first obtaining a licence is a violation of law. To obtain a licence, along with the latest version of the product and documentation contact microEngineering Labs. Inc”
You will need to contact them directly with your question and also about being granted a licence.

Hope This Helps

Then it looks like i have to buy a new copy from an authorized distributor.
But then the question comes upp again, Proton Picbasic for $199,95 or Melabs Picbasic for $249,99.
Does it make any diffrent on what i choose as an hobby programmer?
Both are good compilers... they have been compared extensively just recently (within a week), so do a search.
For strictly hobby use, you might consider who has local phone support in your purchase. Aside from that, read the comparisons and make your choice. Both have excellent forum support.
Hi Fredrick,
since here is where you have come to the table, the obvious answer is PBP. If you want to hang out in the Proton Forum, then Proton is the answer. 6 months from now you are not going to notice the 50 dollars difference. Now if you only intend to do say a total of 10 or less micros in life, I would high tail it over to Kronos Robotics and buy their chips. Their compiler I believe is free, it has great support, a useful GUI, lots of code examples and built in features like 1 click programming of their popular applications.

If you do not believe in MAGIC, Consider how currency has value simply by printing it, and is then traded for real assets.

Gold is the money of kings, silver is the money of gentlemen, barter is the money of peasants - but debt is the money of slaves
