Are you wanting to know specific information or just fishing to see if anybody ever used the ESP8266? If you are wanting help, you might want to offer a question regarding your project. Depending, it would probably be useful to those viewing your question if you posed pertinent information; such as important code, schematics, configurations, etc.

    thanks mpgmike,
So, as a hobby, I have been using the module as a 'transparent uart bridge' over wifi and been able to access my pic over the web, local and distant through my router. It took a little learning process but I was able to program the $5 modules for that use with free software. Then with interrupts and an 18f2525 (with 3k ram) make a system to communicate back and forth directly with pic through wifi or any other uart/usb connection. The wifi though, when working correctly allows communications with no physical hooking up. ( I know most everybody knows all that).
So, I was looking for discussion, first about a basic program scheme (flow chart) since many things happen simultaneously then code issues.
I had an issue of intermittently loosing RCV on pic, lots of head scratching and trying things, it seems I had some coding issues with RCV , Framing errors and overruns . The esp was working well all the time although I thought it was the problem, when I hooked to usb/uart pic worked all the time. I have been using 115200 baud, gives fast through put. This is a screenshot of a little vb.net program I wrote to communicate with pic over network.
that's enough babbling from me for now.

Hey, nice project. Don't think I've hear of anybody using ESP as wireless UART. Can you post more details?

Edit Ah the power of google, just found this, seems to do the job, still interested in your project.
