    I have an ICD 2. How do you use it to program PICs? There's no IC socket.

    Your ICD2 should have a jack with 6 pins. So you need a cable with telephone-like connectors of 6 pins.

    The on your board a female jack of 6 pins (also 8 of the ethernet type should work) and the connections to your PIC should be as in the picture attached.

    You programming IDE is in your MPLABX IPE environment. Then follow the help files.
