That's very sad. Darrel has helped me many times - without him even knowing it. He will be missed by all here.

Indeed very saddening. My sympathies to his family and grateful thanks to him for all his contributions which has helped us grow. Darrels MiBAM is one such classic.

    May he rest in peace.

There are FEW people in this world whom I would label, FRIEND. Darrel was one such man. He gave of himself, without reservation, without seeking
return, simply for the Joy of giving.

I am deeply saddened at the news of Darrel's passing. Darrel will be remembered always for not just his ability s but for the personal care and giving spirit he always shared. He will be missed !

    God bless you Darrel.

Ditto to the kind words already expressed in the responses. He seemed very helpful and a good guy. I hate it when the world loses good people

Didn't know him personally as a friend but looked to him as one. His knowledge and generosity to share it is an inspiration that I will treasure.
I hope it's not wrong to wish I knew what he looks like. Because I picture a sort of Einstein with crew cut black hair and sporting a smirk, but that's just me.

Wow, I'm in shock after reading this. Darrel helped me so many times that I was wishing some day to say thanks to him in person. I guess that won't be possible anymore. Rest in peace my friend.

The loss of Darrel Taylor is a great loss to all of us. There will certainly be an unfillable void in this forum. In his memory and to his great work I would like to hear some discussion on how we can preserve his great contributions. How will his website be maintained? How will his many programs and code snippets be saved? How can we preserve Darrel Taylor's legacy?

Darrel was a key person in PBP programming help and his name will be known for ever in this close circle
of chip programmers worldwide. One feels his death is unfair. He was still young, full of energy and
knowledge and always willing to help. It will be difficult or perhaps impossible to replace him. I myself,
being a beginner in PBP, did not have to ask him questions personally. The answers to my questions were asked by someone else already and placed by Darrel 5 -10 years before on the forum so I just had to find them. It crossed my mind that maybe his collected works should be available for sale and this could help his family. I know most of us already have at least part of this proposed collection of work by Darrel stashed away and used often. One of the most useful latest works by Darrel was his chip Config software that he published this year. If Darrel’s collected works make it into a book put me down for 3 copies.
God rest you in peace Darrel we will never forget you!

I have been busy with summer and haven't been on the forum much. I ran across this and my stomach just sank. Wow, is all I can say. I had stopped by meLabs with Jeff S. a while ago hoping to meet him in person and take him out to lunch for all that he has helped me, but alas, he was working from home that day. He was (and is) a celebrity on this forum and has been greatly responsible for my getting back into PICs. God's peace to all who knew him and will miss him.

So I ask once again. How can we preserve Darrel Taylor's legacy in code? How do we maintain all of his original works as not to be lost and to always be available for all future use?

Just so Incredibly sad to hear this horrible news. Melabs have lost an excellent support engineer. A guy with time to explain and help with clear words and some enduring code examples. We all lost a friend in PBP coding. Like many had never had personal contact with Darrell, but learnt so much from his examples and clear explanations given within these forums just by following along (or at least trying my best to do so)

We already all feel the loss of him leaving us just way too early.

    Regards
    Mike.

I have just returned to the Forum and PBP programming after being absent for most of the last 5 years. I am totally stunned and shocked by this sad news

I learnt an awful lot from Darrel's posts and code examples that he shared so freely. We have all lost a good friend. My condolences to his family. Sleep peacefully Darrel.

OMG! I just am finding out about this!
Damn! Darrel has ALWAYS been a source of good-natured prodding, fun, guidance, mentoring, and ALWAYS found just the right words to help and not hinder someone's progress.
With his help I am much better at what I do, and dammit, he will be sorely missed.
The universe is a little more dim now...... Hell, I'm older than he was.......it is such a loss of a good mind.
I will have an Adult Beverage in his honor this evening........
Regards to All, and especially Darrel.

For a number of days I have not known how to respond to this news; it seems strange that I am affected so deeply by one I can hardly claim as an acquaintance, much less a friend in any traditional sense. It seems presumptuous to claim differently-- to assert some bond between us that did not exist. And yet, a profound sense of loss endures in me that I cannot set aside; nor do I wish to.

It seemed too little tribute to say that I respected his knowledge, that I appreciated his patience, that I sought to emulate his willingness to share himself with those less able. But as time has passed I realize that there is perhaps no greater legacy than to have strangers speak well, and sincerely, of one after their passing, and to have left understanding in the wake of their too short path through this life.

    OMG - what a shock.

Returned to the forum after a break and stumbled across this post.... I'm shocked, DT was such a nice guy, often taking time to help outside of the forum. He (and Henrik) helped me immensely with one of my largest projects, he will be missed no end.

    RIP my Friend

    Default Regarding Darrel Taylor

    Hi All,
I have only been a member of this forum for about a month or so. I am brand new to the world of PICs, but not to electronics. I have over 30 years experience working with analog, digital, and RF circuitry. I have been reading the forums without the need to post; I guess you call this trawling? I have picked up a lot of info here from lots of people including Darrel. It was kind of strange how his posts just stopped. When I found out about his passing I was shocked and dismayed. To echo the thoughts of so many people on these forums, may Darrel and his family be blessed, and may he Rest In Peace.
    Regards,

True, he lives on in my code. I still give hime credit for those 'snippits' in my comments.
Dang he was good. Real good.

Darrel....I'm so sorry. I remember very fondly the help and encouragement you gave myself and others so freely. I've been away from pics and this forum since suffering serious heart attack in 2013 at 46 yo. I was fortunate to survive, and often wonder why some and not others are given a second chance. I exchanged many emails and received a lot of help and had some good chats with Darrel over the years.
To Darrel, you are an example of just how caring, giving, compassionate, clever and talented a person at their best can be.
