    Default Mounting LEDs ideas?

    Hey Guys,

Maybe you can give me some ideas, I'll try to explain it good as I can.

I need to mount a few 5mm standard LEDs (2.54mm pitch) on a single side PCB.

But, I need to mount them on the copper side, and I can not solder them on that side.

The LEDs are separated 10mm from the PCB with some plastic spacers on the copper side.

And I have pass through holes for them with no copper around from the copper side to the component side.

Now, this is the thing, I need to connect the LEDs to the copper side in some way and I can't figure it out how.

Is there some kind of dual row header, with both male and female connectors? Or any other ideas?

I'm asking this because I don't have access to the copper side to solder the LEDs when everything is mounted on a box.

Hope I was able to explain myself. Thanks Guys!

    Daniel.

Try Samtech. They have surface mount dual inline headers both male and female. I have used them before. They are willing to send you samples.

You can purchase LED spacers that are (effectively) x-shaped bottom parts with a flat disc on the top having two holes for the leads. The 'x' part is closest to the PCB/track but gives access to the copper tracks as the leads are 'exposed' down the channels formed by the 'x'....

Not sure of the available heights but you could use a standard spacer on TOP of the x-shaped one.....

Farnell do these x-shapes (amongst others) - their part number is 1325971 - check their website.

Also, I have seen some people twisting the LED leads 90 degrees so they can solder the LED on two PCB pads with no holes. I'm not sure that's the best way to do it, but it works.

Why not simply specify plate through holes then solder from the top?
