    Exclamation Triklits Microcontrolled Christmas Lighting

    Hello

I started looking at ways to make a Christmas light LED string with each lamp site being a PIC serial addressable receiver. Then I came across TRIKLITS which is exactly what I had in mind. Apparently, some people were able to purchase these before they were recalled for quality issues. You can see them on Utube. I have yet to find out from their own website and other places if they are back on the market. It seems that all references to them are at least a year old. Does anybody have any updated information on this product? Failing that, maybe someone has already done some other project that is similar and could be applied in this manner.

    Thanks
    Thanks,

    Looks doable,

Seems to be a RGB led + dedicated controller for each. seems to be 3 wire, V+,SerialData, Gnd. Nothing really that hard.

A big chain of receiver with 3 PWM channels on each. 12F + SERIN/SERIN2/DEBUGIN with WAIT + Darrel's Multi-SPWM and you're in business.

    EDIT:
almost right, they use RS485 driver, so not really that different.

    It's not a bug, it's a random feature.

    Question

Thanks for the reply. Building them is a possibility. The real question is "where have all the Triklits gone". I can find no new information on them. Are they still being made or has the quality issue done them in.
    Thanks,

Why insist on using 32 Bits when you're not even able to deal with the first 8 ones ??? ehhhhhh ...

IF there is the word "Problem" in your question ...
    certainly the answer is " RTFM " or " RTFDataSheet " !!!

Sorry, but due to a number of manufacturing problems in the current batch of lights,
we've decided not to sell any more until we can have a new batch made.
We don't have a good estimate yet on when they will be available.
what a rotten launch huh? Sounds like Windows 98 one (when the blue screen of death appeared)

Just noticed the post linking to my site. The project is alive and well, with many improvements for the coming year.

By the way, the version of the Triklits which I purchased a few years ago is based on a 10F200 (4 MHz clock, < 30 bytes of RAM, no interrupts) in each ball. I was able to successfully control my string using an 18F4550 and the communications protocol NW posted on their site.

The designer has some very elegant & efficient code running in those chips! Kudos for making it run so well.
